From Batkid To Haiyan

This (American) Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude.

So this week I give you two bookend thoughts in the gratitude and pay-it-forward categories.

Batkid and Haiyan.

Watching Batkid take over Gotham, aka San Francisco, rekindled the sheer joy of being (or loving) a child. It reminds us how lucky we are to have healthy families. And judging by the 12,000 + wildly engaged folks who lent a hand making his “Make A Wish” dream come true, he gave much more than he received.

Typhoon Haiyan was truly cataclysmic. What if your home disappeared, and you searched endlessly for your family and neighbors, uncertain days later of their fate? What if you had to compete for food and water, trying desperately just to survive?

Both stories put our own problems into perspective and open our hearts (and our wallets).

I am grateful to be healthy, with a healthy family and a roof over my head. I appreciate having good food, fresh water and abundant sunshine. And I’m blessed with work I love and clients and friends who allow me to do what I do best.

May you count your blessings. And may they be many.

Happy Thanksgiving.

  • Thank you for the beauty of you Rochelle. This is certainly timely in many ways. I would add we have many people in our own country who are struggling for food, water and shelter after so many recent weather phenomenon’s. We should pray for them this week of thanksgiving.

Awww, thanks Ed! And, I totally support your addition. Just in case someone is looking for a great U.S. charity, here is a link to Feeding America.http://feedingamerica.org/

They cover the country and are pretty darned inspirational (not to mention efficient).
